The league is partly about them. A trophy is the baseline, not the prize.

FanbaseLarge

Big, without being one of the two or three biggest.

StandingRespected

A club with a record behind it. Nobody is surprised by anything they do.

Expectation
A title challenge, and second place counts as failure
Identity
Tradition and raw competitiveness, measured only in trophies
Era
Macio Jordan, Rokas

Everything Lion City had to buy, Bilbao already had. The history, the training ground, and the two players the rest of the league would take first. What they do not have is the whole city. Beaver United took a share of it and never gave it back, so the second most decorated club in the league sits a rung below the biggest supports in it.

An old league title and two old APL Cups, then sixteenth in Season 1 and eighty-six points and the Season 2 title. Runners-up in both Seasons 3 and 4, beaten to the Season 3 one by a single point. The Season 2 Super Cup as well. They hold the league's two biggest individual records: the only two-time APL d'Or winner, and a two-time top scorer.

HeatBoiling

The fixture the season is arranged around. Nobody involved is calm about it.

Same city, same animal, completely different realities.

Beaver Bilbao are one of the league's heavyweights, and the record says so plainly: sixteenth in Season 1, then champions in Season 2 and runners-up in both Seasons 3 and 4. They won the Season 2 Super Cup and they have Macio Jordan, the only two-time APL d'Or winner in the league, and Rokas, who has been the league's top scorer twice. For Bilbao, second place is a bad season.

Beaver United were born next to that and forced to grow underneath it. Sixth in Season 1, third in Season 2, genuinely close, and then seventeenth in Season 3. No trophy has ever come. Supporting Beaver United became a statement rather than an expectation.

And there is the thing that gives this derby its edge now: Beaver United did not play Season 4. The fixture does not exist at the moment. A rivalry with nobody to play is the sharpest version of the thing it was always about, which was one club living in the other's shadow.

When it returns, it will not need any build-up.
