The brief
The board's target depends on the club's size and its division, not on last season.
Honours
Trophies from the old APL count too, but have no season recorded.
Rivalries
Lion City
The fixture the season is arranged around. Nobody involved is calm about it.
This is the league's oldest measure of itself.
Lion City arrived at greatness the hard way. Thirteenth in Season 1 and fourth in Season 2, they then won back-to-back titles in Seasons 3 and 4, the only club to win two, and took the APL Cup and both of the last two Super Cups along the way. Toucan City went the other way entirely: third in Season 1, fifth in Season 2, then fifteenth and tenth. One club climbed while the other fell, and they passed each other on the way.
That is what the fixture is now. Lion City defending a dominance barely two seasons old; Toucan City insisting that finishing above them in Season 1 still counts for something. Benjamin O'Blak, Japek and Xyeenz have made Lion City's era, and Toucan City have spent it watching.
Nine meetings, and Lion City lead them: four league wins to three, and a 4-1 in the Season 4 APL Cup the only time the draw has ever put them together. Fifteen goals to nine across the league fixtures.
The numbers understate it. Eight of those nine came in seasons when one of these clubs was chasing the title and the other was not, which is what a derby between a rising club and a falling one always looks like on paper, and never looks like on the day.
